 Sitting in the darkness
 Watching the lights flash
 On and off
 Wondering how many more Christmases
 They could have.

 To know such love
And to know how easily love
 Can be ripped away
 Nothing more frightening.

 Wondering whether it’s worth it
To be so attached to someone else
That being alone is not enough
 Anymore.

 But remembering everything
 In the past
Makes him realize that it is all
 Worth it.

Title: Some Weeks Later…
Category: EMCON
After his back injuries (see Fancy Dancing) D is plagued by anxiety attacks, and B is also upset as he has to watch impotently.
 ___________

The anxiety attacks had started.  How much time had he spent, lying in hospital, waiting for them?  That realization that he may never be able to use his legs again.  His legs.  The things that made him what he was.  The returning sensation to his legs had been…interesting.  Interesting, painful, scary..but interesting.  And to feel was to be able to use those muscles, to depend on them again, instead of hesitating and feeling very, very weak.   And now, so many months later, with everything in his life returning to a reasonably ordered status, unlike the time before the fall, why -now- would these realizations and fears occur?  Why, after all the pain and work it had been to return to this feeling of finally returning to normal, did the anxiety start and threaten to debilitate him all over again.

Bodie sighed and continued to watch his partner go through his personal nightmares.  When Doyle had ceased tensing and groaning, Bodie reach over and pulled Doyle closer and thought to himself about how he had again failed someone he loved and let them be hurt.

And so we all have our personal demons.

Title: Freezing
Category: RELAT (RELATIONSHIP)
Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): B&D’s relationship is still rocky — B starts to seriously need a stronger and more open emotional response from D, whom he thinks does not love him. All the while D is distancing himself in defense against the intensity of B’s feeling — to the point that D strays and sleeps with another man. When B realizes, he decides they just aren’t meant to fit, and calls the relationship off, ostensibly thinking that it is best for D (who will find someone more compatible and whom he loves) and for himself (before he starts hating D).  D is frozen, so out of touch that he is unable to react openly enough to convince B of his feelings, even if D does say that he would like to keep the relationship going. So they split, and both endure as best as they can the excruciating separation, all the while managing to work together, in the hope that eventually they will be able to be just friends thereby salvaging some of their feelings.  The stall is resolved when D thinks that B is having a relationship with a new CI5 recruit: his attempt to tell B that he is not jealous, but unerstands and just wants B to be happy finally allows D to express, and B to recognize, that D really has always been loving him, but was too scared of failure to be able to show it.  They talk, and B is satisfied that they can resume their relationship, knowing that they are now both more aware and ready to cope.

Title: Transients
Category: RELAT (RELATIONSHIP)
Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): D is a physiotherapist and B his client  after he got kneecapped and invalided.  D has admittedly a record of losing interest in his relationships and flitting to new pastures — B has problems adjusting to his disability and this blocks him from having relatioships with women, despite being the romantic type looking for permanent relationships.   D falls in lust/love with B,  and after some angst (unethical to covet thy patient) he tells B — B first turns him down as he is not in love, then thinks it over and decides to accept — he missed D’s friendship a lot, and the relationship could help him transition back towards a proper relationship with a girl. This temporary and mutually advantageous arrangement would also fit D, since he is likely to eventually lose interest and leave B.

Title: Bodie and the Chief
Category: CADE
Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): It is 1995; B is 27, C 55 and Cade 49. D never existed.  B is in Eastland for a job and gets hurt. Cade takes care of B as he is the son of old friend C, but is also angry at C running an op behind his back: so he obtains B as liaison for a coordinated op. Initial attrition, then attraction, (Cade is protective and paternal, B needs protection after his experiences as Krivas’ bumboy in Africa);  finally Cade and B end up in bed.  However, B has to notify CI5 of all his partners  and C gets quite upset — my friend fucked my son! Cade’s daughter is equally upset, and Cade is upset too when he learns that B reported their liaison. The fracture is recomposed after B is hurt in closing down the op, but at this point things get difficult — B has to be back in London, and Cade cannot leave Eastland. After three miserable weeks Cade gives up and starts looking for a job in London (he was truly fed up with his position in Eastland): C unexpectedly helps him by offering to be CI5 Deputy Controller — C wants someone to cover for the period before B can become Controller, and also wants B to be happy, as the man has been miserable away from Cade.  Despite quite a few divergences in methods, outlook and politics, Cade accepts and all is well.

(They do marry, however, since now they legally can).  Luckily, they find the scientist — he was protected by a homophobic minister who was hoping to make his transvestite lover become a ‘real’ woman.  B’s gender is restored, and all is well (almost–B was pregnant and in the change the baby is lost).

Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): It is 1997, but B is 33, C 61 and Balliol 44. D never existed. Balliol has just divorced and is lonely: on the job, he is helping the Home Secretary to keep an eye on the too-powerful CI5. When C has a heart attack and has to retire, Balliol has to keep an eye on C’s son and possible successor, B.  B is also lonely, after short and unsuccessful relationships with Jax and Susan (now happily married to each other) and Anson — wrong orientation, wrong gender and just plain asshole.  B, stressed and overwrought, ends up in bed with Balliol — after some attrition, and a period of courtship, they realize that they are what they need, each the opposite of their appearance (butch B needs someone to take care of him, and is bottom; wimpy Balliol likes protecting and is top).  The practical problems of their relationship are smoothed by them being appointed joint successors of C (the action man plus the politician).   All is well.

Title: Whatever Happened to Raymond Doyle?
Category: RELAT (RELATIONSHIP)
Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): 1997. B is head of CI5 Hong Kong and C is ready to retire so he calls him back to London.  B had left England after D had been shot in the head and on waking had forgotten who he was and he thought he was Alan Cade.  Since taking back to reality was deemed dangerous and impossible, B had left, heartbroken. Both for the good of CI5 and of his son (B), C wants to make B and Cade co-controllers of CI5 — he hopes that “Cade” is now ready to remember. D had used Cade as a long-term undercover identity since the late seventies (there was a real Cade but he had died ) and with time Cade had become the ideal and perfect person while D was the “bad” part, down to the point of D’s daughter ending up officially as Cade’s. A series of misfortunes (shooting a child by mistake, his mum dying etc) just before the shooting have pushed D’s self-esteem so low that he eventually rejects himself-as-D and wakes up being Cade.  Now Cade is instantly fascinated by B and they start a relationship (B hopes that D remembers) but things aren’t well as Cade feels there is someone between them — D. Incensed, Cade starts his own investigation on this mysteriously disappeared D — all the while C is manouvering so that the discovery is gradual. Eventually, Cade remembers and becomes D again. He goes to B, and all is well.

 Talk to me, Bodie.
How can I understand your silences?
Even now, are we still friends?

Perhaps you wish we were not lovers.
Regret changes things, makes them strange.
Only remember, what we have of love —
Feelings like nothing we ever knew —
 Eager touching, kissing, clinging,
 Skin warm against skin,
 Sucking, smiling, squrting, shivering,
In our own world of shared loving,
Only remember how good it was.
Neverending passion. For me, at least.
 And you?
 Look at me.
 Stop thinking.  Feel.

 Trip me up, will you?
Haven’t lost my edge yet, sunshine. You’ll see.
Even with you, I can’t be a cream puff.

Partner becomes a lover; things change.
Reflex actions reach a different consequence.
Often want you, can only touch with eyes.
 Feelings spiral through me, uncontrolled,
Escalating needs.  Need you, only you.
 Simply can’t get enough.
 Scares me.
Independence used to be a goal.
 Once, it mattered.
Now… want you, want you bad,
 Always want you.
 Love you,
 Sunshine.
