Title: Answered Prayers

Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): Series of xmas scenes. 1978: C prays that B finds someone to love before he becomes like Mad Tommy (D was not accepted in CI5 because his superiors in the Met blackballed him so he resigned and became a  photographer). 1979: CI5 asks D to collaborate on a case and he and B are hostile – C sees them quarrelling during the xmas party and follows them to avoid violence – to his surprise the fight becomes an embrace and they discover mutual love – they decide they will live together and D will join CI5 (all this before they even kiss). C, amazed at the way he got his wish, ands up agreeing with their decision. 1980:  all goes well and C prays that it stays so and B&D remain happy forever.

They spend 6 months together then they go their separate way – not ready for a commitment yet.  Five years later, B joins CI5 and is partnered with D.  They are very very happy.

Both feel very alone, and D decides to marry a girlfriend.  B is not going to go to the wedding, but sends 12 red roses with a poem. D, who is already having second thoughts, understands and goes at B’s.  They decide to live together,  have sex and then leave for the honeymoon D still had the tickets for.  C is mad at himself for failing to keep them separated (he knew), but then gives up and assents.  Murphy plans to get the left-out girlfriend.

Title: Little Learning is a Dang’rous Thing, A

Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): In this universe, D is an MI6 agent who got sick of Willis’ methods and helped a professof B to escape a killing interrogation. B had been targeted by Willis as a connection to an african dictator, and he and D try to get out of the situation by contacting said dictator (now in London). They end up saving him, and it turns out that B used to be a merc under the dictator — as they are in a difficult situation, they call C for help. He saves them and also asks them to enter CI5 as they are obviously a very good team. They accept: and now that the danger is over, they can give in to the obvious mutual attraction they had been having since the beginning, but had to shelve until times got better. SWS.

B is still trying to come to term with their relationship and the reproach makes him feel claustrophobic. Resentment festers and they quarrel until the day D is late and B gloats in vengeance – they quarrel so hard B leaves ans dpends the night at HQ. The morning after B realizes D had been late because hurt in an op, and is repentant (especially since D sends him roses to intiate peace). Furthermore, B revises his priorities and now is not only not claustrophobic anymore, he admits he is into a permanent relationship that needs work to function.

Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): Due to a security leak that has produced a flat shortage, B&D have to share a one bedroom apartment for a semester.  The story chronicles the progression of their relationship from lots of fights at the beginning to settling into the domesticity and finally becoming most important to each other – while all the other agents in a similar situation fail to settle and quarrel to a split.  They finally acknowledge their relationship, after some cold feet, and are happy ever after, with C having to concede them a larger flat together.

Title: Undercover

Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): D, still a cop and  being examined for CI5, is working undercover as a prostitute. He wonders if C will ask him about his bisexuality. In the course of the job, D meets a Andrew Bond and they end up in bed – first as prostitute and client then as lovers.  The night the job is over D rescues Bond from some drug dealers – he thinks that Bond is involved in some shady deal and is worried, but has to go.  After 6 weeks D is accepted into CI5, but he is sad because Bond has apparently vanished even though according to a neighbour Bond was trying to find D before he left.   Of course when D is introduced to his new partner B he finds out that B is Bond.  They celebrate the reunion making love, then they decide that they cant be lovers for at least  the next two years to make sure they wont be found out – but will they make it?

It turns out that B is rather gay too, and his wife really his sister (smokescreen for her protection as she is a widow). The Ripper dies of infection (D’s sister had wounded him with a hatpin) and they happily end up together, with a little help from Oscar Wilde (!).

Title: End of an Illusion

Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): The Day after Consequences, B&D wake up and quarrel.  B denies the accusation of rape, says that D wanted it but was too chicked to admit it; hits D and kisses him to prove it, then lays his terms.  The sex was good so they should keep going but no involvement especially since they could compromise the job that way.  Take it or leave it.  D accepts the reasoning and the conditions but is unhappy.   the ending: Bodie smiled, smugly.  He got to his feet and swung open the fridge door.  Good,” he said.  “And now we’ve got that sorted out, how about breakfast?” It took some time to realise that Doyle’s sudden fit of choking was caused by an outburst of hysterical laughter, and even longer to realise *why*. “

Title: Action of the Tiger

Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): B realizes he wants and loves D: he is ashamed and tries to hide it from D. Then D realizes and confronts him in outrage, and B runs. C traces him back at the last moment and D realizes he cannot lose B: so D loses C and picks up B, taking him to a hotel to work things out. D is ready to sacrifice him and give in to B’s desire, so B won’t leave — but as they found out, it is no sacrifice at all. Unfortunately, C tracks them and finds them as they are having sex. C is flabbergasted and angry, and tries everything to split them, thinking it is a mistake. D is sent undercover, so B&D have to fight the villains, C, and their own insecurities and fears for each other. The case ends up well, and C is mollified but not tamed: it is just a truce not the end of his attempts. B&D are also dubious of their ability to stay in CI5 and still function without fearing for each other’s lives — but no-one of them wants to say that, thinking that the other would not leave. So all is well for now, and they are happy together: but what will happen?
