Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): B is appointed as head of CI5 and meets Chief Constable Cade (who is really D). Each of them thought the other dead (they were set up by Willis) — B does not recognize D and D decides not to tell him the truth. B has been attracted to D’s lookalikes so he beds Cade even as he is angry at him and himself. Eventually the story comes out: when B had been declared dead, D had left CI5 and met the real Cade; when this one had been killed D had replaced him (letting people think D is really dead) and now cannot revert to his real identity (his daughter, his ideals and work). At first they try D’s way, just being friends, but it won’t work, so they get back together. There are some rough patches, as D is paranoid and B is over-protective, and they have to work out the pain and resentment of their enforced 14 years of separation: but eventually they manage to work together for the new National Police, to come out to Cade’s daughter and to their employers, and live together happily ever after. |

Title: Old Friends 3 |
Category: OLD FRIENDS |
Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): The events in the gay bar from B’s point of view (there are some incongruences with the original Old Friends story). D never recognizes his ex-lovers, and B is the only one to go to the loo, which starts him thinking, together with D’s insuciance in the bar. As D drops B off for the night, B is kidnapped by the two ex-lovers of D’s, who want to show him how good and loving gay sex is, so that he can start thinking of D that way. So they have sex in front of B and then let him go: the seed of interest is planted. |

Title: Prequel to Old Friends, A |
Category: OLD FRIENDS |
Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): Significantly different from the rest of the stories in the series, only the gay pub is left. D has to go see an informer there, an informer with whom he has been having casual sex, he tells B. B says it is not prudent to do so, he should have asked him for sex. D answers that he wants more than that from a partner with whom he might fall in love, if only B was less macho (only top, no cuddles) and then storms off. B reflects on what is at stake, and acknowledges that he might or might not take up on D’s implicit offer: that night in the pub will tell. |

Title: Suitable Gravity |
Category: SF |
Plot summary (very short pieces are sometimes copied here in their entirety): Set in the future. Protector (policeman) D has been stood up by Anne on their wedding day. As he goes to give away his hoenymoon tickets, he bumps into B, CI5 agent on the run. To help him, they leave for the Martian honeymoon, pretending to be the wedded couple. B is immediately attracted by D and candidly says he will try and get him — D is ambivalent, struggling still with his fiasco with Anne — they progress to sex (initiation of D to gay sex), and D is falling in love: at the same time they have to fight against the people who are after B, and run into many dangers. They eventually make it, even if D is shell-shocked by having had to kill to save B (the future society is very regulated and violence really beyond the pale). Plus, D finds out B was wired to record everything for the CI5 files, and feels betrayed and spied upon. They get back to Earth and go their separate ways, but D can’t shake his love off, and B reappears, determined to woo D, who on his part is more than ready to be wooed. All is well. |
